| Requirements and Responsibilities For VP of Underwriting - P&C |
| Leads and directs all aspects of the property and casualty (P&C) underwriting business line. Develops and implements guidelines and procedures regarding risk exposure, application renewal, acceptance, modification, and denial. Researches and monitors changes to laws and regulations which impact P&C insurance products. Monitors the evaluation and analysis of inspection reports, location, risk, credit reports, and additional information to accept, decline, or renew an application. Provides assistance on more complex applications. Ensures compliance with all industry and governmental regulations. May require a master's degree. Typically requires Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU). Typically reports to senior management. Manages a departmental function within a broader corporate function. Develops major goals to support broad functional objectives. Approves policies developed within various sub-functions and departments. Typically requires 8+ years of managerial experience. Comprehensive knowledge of the overall departmental function. |
