| Requirements and Responsibilities For VP of Underwriting - Life |
| Leads and directs the overall life insurance underwriting strategy and operations. Oversees the team responsible for reviewing and analyzing life insurance applications. Establishes guidelines, tools, standards, and best practices and ensures they are used to accept, reject, or mitigate risk for applications. Researches competitors and market conditions to ensure product competitiveness. Ensures compliance with all industry and governmental regulations. May require a master's degree. May require Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) certification. Typically reports to senior management. Manages a departmental function within a broader corporate function. Develops major goals to support broad functional objectives. Approves policies developed within various sub-functions and departments. Typically requires 8+ years of managerial experience. Comprehensive knowledge of the overall departmental function. |
